Anime homage to Phoenix Wright
In this episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, the characters find themselves at a turnabout dinner table, trying to get to the bottom of a mystery. If you've played Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (and you really, really should have), you may spot some awfully familiar mannerisms that give the homage away.

I've been following Haruhi diligently since episode 2. Excellent series, highly recommended.
I didn't catch the Phoenix Wright references, though, as I've yet to play the game. But after some friends pointed them out to me, I'm seriously considering picking it up next time I'm at GameStop.

OMG. That's good stuff. Very rewarding to fans of the game like myself. I'm now proceeding to download all of the episodes for further investigation. It looks funny anyway

You'd probably have to get it used, Dark Morford, because Capcom has discontinued the game, but the sequel is coming out for the DS in Q1 2007! w00t!
Also, OMG THIS IS ILLEGAL!

Capcom has not discontinued Phoenix Wright. They are still making it. Any shipment however gets gobbled up when ever it hits the store shelves. Any online store that got a shipment if it was well known sold out in a day.
They only made a small production run then got caught by surprise by how high the demand was. They are still making it.
Odds are you think Tramua Center and Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix were also discontinued right?
http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/NTR-P-AGYE.html has it for sale and even a note that they are making another production run in mid June.

lol, yes, the influence is quite obvious. If you haven't played the game people, just go find a trailer and watch it, you'll see most of Wright's mannerisms mirrored by the girl, and one of the guys does the little hair flick thing JUST like Wright's rival. Especially at the end, it's definitly intentional to give homage to the game.
But seriously, that was great...

I saw this over a week ago (funny as hell, this show is) and I still say the scene would have been that much cooler if they had the outbursting HOLD IT!! blast onto the screen (or more appropriately, IINAI!!).
They also needed to pronounce the sound of Haruhi's hands banging down onto the table more. The way they do it is more realistic, sure, but the DS game's BAM was cooler!

Sweet, you posted this. :D
I've heard that the anime series Pani Poni Dash! also makes references to Phoenix Wright... but I can't confirm this, as I've yet to see it...

Saw this a while ago, i wasnt sure whether it was refrenced to Phoenix Wright or just lawyers in general. That episode was probably my favourite so far- oh and btw dont watch that video if you are following the series and havent watched up to episode 8 in TV order.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is genius. The first episode is one of the most brilliant parodies I've ever seen.

You mean "MATTA" for "hold it!"
"IGIARI" is for "objection," so I can see where the confusion is. ("KURAE" for "take that.")
I saw this video a while ago on an LJ community. It came with an animated .gif with a Phoenix inset. In case no one can catch the references, of course.

Hold it!
That animated .gif doesn't include the Edgeworth hair flick and bow, nor the Maya nod. It's incomplete!
