Japanese hardware sales, 29 May - 4 June: How bizarre [Update 1]

Oh, look. It's the weekly Japanese hardware sales chart. Every time I look around, it's in my face. The ranking, according to number of units sold:

- DS Lite: 135,614 149,411 (52.42%)
- PSP: 24,595 2,632 (9.67%)
- PS2: 18,513 1,285 (6.49%)
- GBA SP: 4,364 2288 (34.40%)
- Game Boy Micro: 1,270 743 (36.91%)
- Xbox 360: 1,245 3 (0.24%)
- Phat DS: 1,159 2,967 (71.91%)
-
Gamecube: 798 318 (28.49%)
- Xbox: 43 35 (43.75%)
- GBA: 30 14 (31.81%)
Whether it's a rare planetary alignment or mass hypnosis, something irregular is surely to blame for this weird state of events. Microsoft's consoles are the only ones not to take a sales plunge this week -- even the DS Phat's fall from grace sends it hurtling past the Xbox 360. How bizarre.

[Update: Quite bizarrely, some of the numbers were from last week. Corrected.]

It would help my shocked heart, if you would fix the DS as going down 52,47 percent to 52.47. I nearly had a heart attack!

What criteria did you use to order the console sales?

If its Most Sold, to least sold, then it should be like this

    - DS Lite: 135,614 149,411 (52,42%)
    - PSP: 24,595 2,632 (9,67%)
    - PS2: 19,798 1,285 (6,49%)
    - GBA SP: 4,364 2288 (34,40%)
    - Phat DS: 4,126 2,967 (71,91%)

Odd, half o the post dissappeared.

I'm guessing its because of the "greater than" symbol I used. Bizzare indeed.

What didnt get posted was the order of the products. DSPhat should be right below GBASP and above Micro.

Also, I think the reason why DSLite's sales dropped 50% is because its soon to be released in USA, Europe and already in Australia.

Nushio, the sales are ordered from highest to lowest. I mistakenly entered last week's number for the DS Phat, which is why it seemed odd. I've corrected it now.

Ludwig: I knew something was bizarre :P

And RupeeClock: Its the drought. There are no new games coming out on summer. Noone makes games come out on summer. Games drive system sales, not the other way around.

Maybe it's because everyone has a DS lite. Or having a hard time finding them.
What I have a hard time wondering is why people buy the original GBA and XBox. Or why it's still in stock.

I've been constantly puzzled by what could be making
the ol' DS Phat drop so low. I mean sure the system is hideous compared to the DS. But surely retailers are offering it at a much lower price....

Recently it hit me, Nintendo killed it. When it's younger brother was born. They took the DS Phat out into the yard and SHOT IT DEAD. Monsters..... despicable I say, absolutely despicable.

So its quite obviuos the huge bump in DS Lite sales was due to the release of NSMB in Japan(was it 335000?). Even 135000 units is impressive enough. This likely to continue. As for the bizarre increase in Microsofts sales lol, love the sarcasm.

As for the DS large it would seem Nintendo have their wish and it really is finally disappeared from Japans shelves.

    Yoshis island 2 please.....
