Sega Managing Director Hideki Okamura recently conducted an interview with Nikkei Shimbun, discussing the company's future in the handheld racket. The future? Well, for Sega (and others), it's the DS. That's right, Okamura confirmed that the company is shifting its handheld focus over to Nintendo's dual-screened beauty, also taking the time to drop a tidbit of a teaser by saying Sega will release a game later this there that will "surprise absolutely everyone."Sega isn't blind to their competition on the platform, as Okamura recognized Nintendo's own titles that have done so well on the DS. He says that "We [Sega] have to do a lot of thinking about titles for Nintendo's hardware, because Nintendo's own titles are extremely strong. It really is difficult to sell a title as a third party."
So who else wants a sequel to Sonic Rush?

I have a PSP and a DS.... for me DS is only good for two games =new super mario brothers+ mario kart DS,(and you say PSP is all remakes) I at first would have agreed that PSP had no good games but now it has wipeout pure, Burnout, Metal Gear, loco roco, death jr.,daxter, ratchet and clank, Sid Meir's Pirates, tekken, lumines 2,monster hunter, killzone, and many more, plus black hawk, 300, god of war, call of duty, virtua tennis, dragon ball z, final fantasy 7, oblivion, free running, castlevania X,star wars the force unleashed, battlefield 2, hot pxl, an eye toy, crazi taxi, alien syndrome, MACH, maybe a devil may cry, and a whole lot more
-plus psp has a more comprehensive online
-and CRAZY HOMBREW!!!! so you can take your NES,SNES, Genisis, turbo grfx, commodore 64, and GBA, anywhere you go.
-BUT ds has better load times and the touchscreen is pretty cool, Sony should take note of that for the PSP2 which we all know will evntually come out in maybe 4 years....PSP dying=major fanboy stupidity
(if you feel offendedby my DS game selection= I now hate pokemon games and never liked elite beat agents. But i commend Kirby and Sonic rush on their fun levels, but I don't think their worth $30, Ratchet and Clank is way better simply due to the crazy multiplayer fun.)
-so in conclusion to this rant, Me love PSP!! but I like DS and hope to get some better games= most don't even use the touch screen outside of menus, and quirky minigames, you can play these mini games on the computer! (well not exactly but flash games are pretty much the same, especially if you have a tablet PC)so PSP pwns ALL systems...except maybe for the wii, but that doesn'trun homebrew.

@8 Most of those games you mentioned for the PSP came out mid-to-late last year. DS has been winning for quite awhile.
You're a serious PSP fanboy get over yourself.
You don't even mention GOOD titles for the DS like Final Fantasy 3, Meteos, Phoenix Wright, Mario vs Donkey Kong 2, Yoshi's Island DS, Animal Crossing Wild World.
Theres many more I can't even remember right now. Stop being a douche and look at why Sega might be focusing its portable games on the DS. Furthermore what are you doing on www.dsfanboy.com anyway?

Jonathan I respect your comments, but cut Muhammad some slack, he politely stated that he didn't like most of those games, and he does have a DS, so he has all right to use this blog, furthermore he never stated that he hated the DS he just isn't content with the content line up. Although I argee that he seems to have a bias, he has some good points, Super Mario & Mario Kart are the only games I play now, I also think the use of the touch screen isn't used to its fullest potential. But I love my DS nevertheless.
Also Sega isn't focusing its portable games solely on DS, it is trying to get action on BOTH handhelds, which is what most major buisnesses would do to get money (obviously)
Furthermore after reading these posts I checked IGN and most of the games Muhammad stated didn't come out yet, and are pending for spring or summer releases, and although he seems fanboyish, his game lineup seems pretty strong.
line pI think DS is the best...right now, but the PSP has some serious potential, onlay IS improving, and sony has a reputation of bringing in good games to their systems pretty late, and I am very impressed with the PSPs homebrew community.
Although I may seem to like the PSP better in this post I don't. I LOVE my DS and I disagree with mUhammad, it has a GREAT selection of games. The Mario dS series is unbeatable. But I am leanient to the PSP because it has a lot of potential, and I like the system(just not as much right now), once they get better games I might change my ideas over which system is better, but I still have a place in my heart for my DS.
so in all, I am not a serious fanboy and am willing to look at the competitor's products with respect. I just hate all of the people who say stuff like one system sucks or the others the best. But I think both PSP and the DS have their strong and weak points.
-------------lets see just how many angry fanboys start screaming treason now.! ;)
oh to add fuel to the fire ( I am thinking of buying a PSP... my friend has one and his hombrew is AMAZING, I wish DS could do that, and some of the games actually look pretty freakin awsome, even penny arcade seems to think so)BUt to cool all you seething fanboys, I still love my DS and think that many of the games are excellent, only I agree with Muhammad that there isn't much for me except Mario Kart, and New SMB, I also like Meteos, Kirby SS, and although sonic rush isn't as good as the original 2d sonic games it is pretty good.

Intriguing. I read this and ask myself "Well, what will surprise absolutely everyone?".
-A Feel the Magic Sequel? No.
-Another Sonic game? That might be good but wouldn't be surprising
-a sega sports title? again, not surprising
-Someone above mentioned: a skies of arcadia sequel? that would be good ONLY if its a sequel and not a remake
My money is on either a shenmue remake or sequel, or maybe something either remade or ported from the genesis a la their VC titles.
Crazy taxi or ChuChu Rockets might also be surprising and welcomed.

count me in for Chu Chu Rocket as well. talk about a game that's just DYING for touchscreen + wifi! and lord knows they wouldn't have to put much budget into it... so come on, Sega, hook us up. (or somebody in the homebrew scene, even!)

Games on the DS are much higher std than PSP (I have both). How bad Sega games suck will be more obvious now.
I am not buying the PSP-dead crap floating in the waters of the blogoshpere. PSP is doing great, just not as great as the DS.
Quirky games are great, but I want Daxter, Ratchet, MGS, Oblivion type games on a handheld and the PSP does those better.

I think there is a "Feel The Magic 2" game in Japan. As far as I know, it hasn't (and probably won't) be translated into English.
I *like* Feel the Magic. It's an excellent first NDS game to experience. Goofy as hell, and it's so Japanese it hurts.
But, then again, I paid $7 for Feel The Magic used, and have gotten a LOT of value out of that game.

WHAT!!!!!!!! Thats just misinformed nonsense. To take apart your so cleverly subtle "rant"
wipeout pure = Mediocre racing game
Burnout = Good racing Game, better on ps2
Metal Gear = A substandard kick in the teeth for all fans of Mgs, may as well call in Metroid Gear Solid
loco roco = 1 tuely innovative, fun game
death jr. = OH THE HUMANITY, WHY!!!?
daxter = Sub-par platformer that Ninty fans saw 10 years ago
ratchet and clank = how many friends with is game do you have?
Sid Meir's Pirates = Have you played the PC version? this is cut down but still good
tekken = Superb, one thing I agree on
lumines 2 = Again superb, but Meteos is better
monster hunter = A bitter disapointment which left me heart broken, and yet you say you don't like pokemon?
killzone = No dinity
and many more = Where
final fantasy 7 = a bad real time combat game with rpg elements, do your research!
oblivion = a pale shadow of its former self, now a mere dungeon crawler
free running = No opinion
castlevania X = Cause ya know 3d castlevania's are always great
star wars the force unleashed = Multi-platform that will never be KoTor or Rogue Squadron
your neutrality held up so well up until the end were, just a slip, you uttered the most oxymoranical words imaginable
"so PSP pwns ALL systems!"
