Early reports indicate that next week's releases of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl may turn out to be, well, lucrative. Already, presale orders easily top half a million in the United States. Unsurprisingly, this has landed the titles on the list of predicted bestsellers by year's end. To offer a little perspective, preorder numbers double those of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen, the games that debuted in 2004. Those games went on to sell nearly three and a half million. Are you one among many -- do you have either (or both) of these titles on preorder, or are you more the sort to cross your fingers and call your local gaming store on release day? Or are you -- gasp! -- not planning to get your Pokémon on at all?

About one or two years ago I decided to see what the fuss was about and, on a whim, bought Pokemon LeafGreen. That game consumed my soul for months on end. I even got my girlfriend to buy FireRed, thereby ensuring that the only person who could save me... could not. We were caught.
Now I'm looking at Pokemon Pearl and whimpering to myself in a corner. Of course I want it, but part of me knows it's not safe.

As an FYI, all the browsers I've got (in my case, Opera 9.2, Firefox 2.0.0.3, and IE7, all in WinXP) put out garbage where the accented e is supposed to be in the title. You may want to get that fixed (and it fixes itself if you manually switch the encoding to UTF-8 over here).
Back on topic, I haven't played a PKMN game since Blue on the GBC, so I bought LeafGreen last week to get back in the mood, and I've got Diamond pre-ordered via Amazon, and bought a Turtle Beach Earforce D2 headset for the occasion

I was planning to have my brother and I trade each other on DP but he's looking into STF before college and won't focus on games. My sister is also discouraging me from games too. I might get both versions and trade whenever I have access to my brother's DS.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is available. You can trade and battle over it as well as putting out an option. Like saying you have a butterfree and looking for raticate etc. You can also simply uplink GBA pokemon through the second slot.

I thought that Battles would require a friend code but that trading would be free
Although, if battles are online, may i ask what the point of Pokemon Battle Revolution will be?

Putting out that option or wanted poster or auction or something doesn't need friend codes. I believe there is random battles available I'm not sure. VOIP before during and after battle requires friend codes.

El Wiki is a bit vague on if battles require FCs (link below for analysis pleasures), but trading is indeed either local or online. The online trading consists of putting up "Lv20 BULBASAUR FOR TRADE, WILL TAKE Lv20 CHARMANDER OR BETTER", and other people responding, and you don't have to be present to finish the trade. I'm assuming you'll be able to make more traditional trades with people on your friend list. I'm curious why you can't trade for items or outright sell them.
VoIP most definitley req's friend codes. And the secret underground lairs sound intresting (never played Ru/Sa), sorta giving the game an AC-like twist.
And here's the link...

@9 Mr Khan:
The point is so you can do those same battles in 3-D on a huge television, just like Pokemon Stadium before it. I don't really give a Ratatta's hind on if they're 3D, but I guess some people do

Alas, I havent played a Pokemon game since the Red/Blue and Yellow games of the original GB. Those were the days.
However, these two new ones have my girlfriend in a whirl. She can't stop talking about it. Therefor I decided to preorder a Pearl for her and a Diamond for myself so we have something we can play together.
Needless to say she doesn't like my FPS games to much, heh.

As I sit here playing with my Dialga stylus...
I will be standing outside Target on Sunday morning. I've been occupying the time by futzing around with my sapphire version that's been sitting in my GBM on my night stand for honest-to-god a year and a half. I've been making all necessary preparation with that: Breeding my Swampart to make and army of Mupkips (you know what I'm talking about...anonymous), Having all the pokemon I'm gonna transfer hold one of my gamesharked master balls....you know, taking care of the essentials
I actually found my silver the other day, but the backup battery died and my save got erased. My blue version I'm pretty sure got destroyed several years ago, and I have no idea where my yellow version is. I am in need of a fresh start with diamond.

I've got Diamond on preorder. Unfortunately, you can only battle one person at a time. If you want a little more info about Diamond and Pearl, try checking Serebii ( http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/wifi.shtml ). They usually have the best info about Pokemon games.

Of course I'm getting it! I'm not so sure about the differences between diamond and pearl, though. I ordered Diamond because the gu y at Gamestop said "order the one you think looks cooler."
Anyone know?

I've got both games on pre-order. Going out tomorrow to see if either store I went to (Toys 'R Us and EBGames) are breaking the street date. Otherwise, I will disappear for the weekend.
And I'm also working on a move list (what each one does, not a Pokedex... the Pokedex for these games is 368 pages from Prima, for chrissake). Look for it around the release date.
