While we enjoy hacks just as much as the next blog, we're pretty sure we would never try this on our Game Boy. It's a treasure, to be held tightly at night as we drift off into a dream land filled with
plumbers and
bounty hunters. Some folk don't see it the same as we do, though, as they gutted open a Game Boy, stuffed it with 1MB of flash memory, a serial interface, and a custom ROM, turning it into the drum machine you see above.

They didn't gut a GameBoy -- they simply gutted a GameBoy game. It looks like their interface will work with anything that can play GameBoy games (i.e, anything from Nintendo with GameBoy in it's name, except the Micro).
As it is, it's pretty neat. Though, I do wonder why they didn't just use a GBA at this point -- I guess in theory, the GameBoy hardware is more plentiful. But, the simpler programming model on the GBA (32-bit processor, no bank switching) would've made things much simpler, IMO. But, I guess you get some serious geek points for building something for the original GameBoy these days :)
