All that glitters is gold decal

We've showed you some nice DS sticker skins from South Korea before, but we think these decals are a little bit nicer. Why? Because they're 24-karat gold, of course. The SGP Metal pack, which makes the DS shiny and delicious, is being sold in South Korea for 26,200 KRW (approximately $29 USD).

Adding metal trim to the DS is apparently all the rage in South Korea, which is fine by us. If we ever make it over there, we'll have to keep an eye out for all the pimped out handhelds.

Hit the jump to see what this DS looks like on the inside.

Hello Kitty DS Lite skin, goodbye elegance

This Hello Kitty decal set for the DS Lite has a lot going on. There's the obvious Kitty, outlined in a rhinestone-like pattern, and the "Hello Kitty" name, just as we'd expect from a Hello Kitty-branded product.

But everywhere there's not Kitty, there are flowers and butterflies. Every area of vinyl that can have a flower on it has a flower on it. We haven't tested this theory, but we're pretty sure it would confuse and irritate our real cats. This is quite a divergence from the last batch of Hello Kitty skins we saw, which were quite nicely designed!

A yellow Pikachu facade for your shamefully non-limited DS

This yellow silicone DS Lite cover beats the "real" Pikachu DS Lite in four ways that we can think of:
  1. It's totally got color art on it
  2. This actually prevents damage, encouraging us to play it more rather than hide it in a safe deposit box
  3. It creates that two-tone look that we apparently love, and
  4. You can get it in a reasonable manner, for $13.
The last one is the real big deal. There was basically no chance of us submitting an application to the Pokemon Center in Japan, getting extremely lucky, and then shelling out for the Lite. This way, we can cover our normal DS Lite in the equivalent of a Pikachu DS Lite Halloween costume. Play-Asia is shipping the Silicon Cover (Pokemon Yellow) for $12.90. Despite the name, we're pretty sure it's made of silicone.

Julius the Pirate Monkey DS Lite

It's been too long since we last took a sip from China's rum bottle of personalized DS Lites; it's time to get back on that wagon with a buccaneer-themed skin.

YYJoy forumer Pikapika shivered our timbers, decorating his handheld with a crossed-cutlasses pattern and Julius the Monkey decked out in full corsair regalia. Now that's piracy we can get behind! Walk the post break plank for more photos of the shipshape DS Lite.

Sticker shocking designs from Korea

Gariz's stickers won't upstage mods like yesterday's Zelda-themed DS Lite, but they're an easy way to personalize your handheld with an attractive design. The metal decals emphasize the embossed logo on the system' s lid, surrounding it with either a deco pattern or a miniaturized DS. Both styles come in silver and gold.

Selling for approximately $29 at its Korean shop, the're no doubt that the Gariz skins are overpriced, especially when you consider that the rest of the included stickers -- matching borders for your screens, three alphabet sets, and accents for your D-pad/buttons -- are nothing to write home about. We're sure that there'll be people who won't mind paying the premium price though, as there aren't many other options for subtle customizations like these. Jump past the break for more photos.

Give the Sudoku grid a new look

http://www.dev-fr.org/index.php?topic=251.0The Nintendo DS is rife with Sudoku releases, both commercial and unofficial. Dress them up with mini-cakes or martial arts if you want to, but it's getting harder and harder for these games to keep us interested with each passing week.

Leave it to homebrew superstar Mollusk to add some life to the number puzzle. As its name implies, Skinz Sudoku allows you to customize almost every visual detail of its interface. Dropping a PNG template into the game's included PAFS.bat file spits out a unique Skinz Sudoku ROM with your graphics. Jump past the post break for some examples of the different themes.

Think of the possibilities! Design your screens with lightning bolts! Replace all of the numbers with Pokémon heads! Scan in a photo of your secret crush with a word balloon that says, "I luv u! Plz date me!" Just don't let anyone catch you locking lips with your DS after staring into his or her eyes for too long. Seriously guys, that's weird.

DS Daily: Get your skin on

We were looking wistfully at this phantom Phoenix Wright decal set, as we are prone to do in unguarded moments, and we realized that despite the fact that this particular set was too beautiful for this world, we still have a desire to skin our DS.

But we thought we'd check with you before we did anything hasty. What's your opinion on skinning? Is it universally tacky (er, in the style sense-- we'd kind of hope they were a little sticky) or a way to make your system unique? And if you're all for it, what do you go for? Bling? Anime tie-in? Or something from one of the online stores like Decalgirl that specializes in skins?
