DS Daily: Multitasking

One of the great things about the DS and other handheld systems is that they don't require the use of the TV. Because of this, we often find our DS time and our TV time combined. Portrait of Ruin is bliss by itself, but if we can watch "Darmok" while playing it, it's even better. We're kind of busy here at the bustling DS Fanboy compound-- we have to pack as much relaxation into our downtime as possible. Occasionally we'll realize that between the DS, the TV, and the laptop, we've got four screens in front of us, and then we get a little scared that we're going to go crazy very quickly.

What about you, readers? Do you play while watching TV? Or while doing homework, or participating in chats for online classes? Or is two screens at a time enough?

1. I still sometimes play while watching TV. When I was in grade school I would do my homework while watching TV and playing games.

2. I constantly watch television while using my DS. I also use it on the bus on the way to work.

3. Depending on the show I am watching sometimes I play during the show if I am not interested in it as much. If the show is one of my main one I watch I will play only during the commercials. Which doesn't matter if I have it on my DVR.
Usually though I play card games and Brain Games during TV commercials though. Nothing that gets me too in to it.

4. I play DS while on the computer, during TV commercials, and before classes. Also sometimes before bed. :) The DS usually can rid me of boredom for a good bit of time. :D

5. Sometimes I watch TV while doing homework and reading DS Fanboy on my MacBook Pro, listening to music on my new iPod shuffle, playing Pheonix Wright on my DS Lite and trying to catch Rayquaza on Pokemon Emerald on my Game Boy Micro. Unfourtunetely, it does not have a positive effect on my homework. ;-)

6. I typically play while watching TV, which tends to dictate the types of games I purchase. Turn-based RPGs work best.

7. I don't watch TV (except for DVD box sets), but I do play DS while listening to podcasts.

8. Sometimes, while taking a break from my writing homework on my laptop, and after checking my list of things to do on my Palm, and with my cell phone nearby in case my wife is checking up on me, I will either turn on TV or listen to my ipod while playing the DS.

It's times like these that make me thing I'm a modern douche bag, but Advance Wars wipes the mind clean.

9. Back in the day, i would keep my DS next to my pc with animal crossing running, to shoot down balloons during the day and wish on shooting starts at night...

Posted at 10:36PM on Mar 19th 2007 by Kefka

10. I'll very often play while my wife is watching something I don't like. Otherwise I usually have Sirius on in the background.

Too bad the browser won't stream it...

11. Tv/DS or phone/DS or cooking dinner/DS are common combinations at my place. Even walking home and playing DS...though that usually results in me walking straight into a lamp post or fellow pedestrian...

12. I work on a 911 ambulance and I play all the time when we're not doing anything, which is about half the day. Once on a slow day with the brightness all the way up, I discharged the entire battery in one day during a 12 hour shift.

The down side is I can beat most games in about a week, so I have to buy a lot. :)

13. I got my DS Lite Black on Friday =) I've so far found myself on it while waiting a lot for public transportation.

I've also found I only ever use it to slowly browse the internet for news with it when I'm watching TV or doing something else that requires as much attention. Other things just require too much thought power.

14. I play my DS lite while watching TV.
And I play my DS while im playing some game on the computer, hmm... like after I died in some FPS, waiting for a new game, I play then.
I think 2 screens is my limit though.
