In honor of the (U.S.) holiday, we thought it might be a good time to talk about travel. One of the best features of the DS is its portability; you can take handhelds just about everywhere. But when planning for a trip, there are always a few questions to consider. Will you have a chance to actually use it? If you're going camping, say, do you really want to risk your DS ... particularly if you're the one likely to be behind the wheel? Where don't you take your DS? But if you're heading off for a plane ride and a few days in a hotel somewhere, the DS can be a welcome distraction. The question that remains is: how many games do you pack?

(Page 1)2. I take my DS everywhere. It's permanently in my purse or bag. And I take every game I haven't beat with me, even if the chances of playing them are remote. You never know! ;)

3. I take my DS with me a lot, I play it daily on the bus on the way to and from work, I take it with me when I go to my girlfriends house because I tend to stay up a lot later than her so I whip out the DS for a few games, I haven't yet had the chance to take it with me on a plane ride, but I am certain it would come in handy on those long flights.
I carry whatever games I am playing at the time, I have an M3 Lite and I keep around 12 DS games on it as well as 6 GBA games, Monkey Island 1, Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max (ScummVM SD) as well as a few NES and SEGA Master System games.

4. I recently took my DS (along with the 4 others that belong to my wife and kids) to Europe. We brought the charger and a 240-120v transformer (the DS is the only electronic device I own that did not come with a universal power supply). However, when trying to charge it via a transformer -- it didn't work. The DS would not charge this way. We ended up buying a UK charger, which worked fine. Has anyone else had this problem?

6. I just got back from a trip to New York. I took nine games but all I played was Pokemon Pearl. It came in very handy when all flights were grounded for hours and we were stuck in the airport trying to get home. I found a plug near the gate and camped on the floor with it plugged in. A little girl was playing on hers (I think she said she was playing "Franklin"?) and it ran out of juice so I let her charge for a while. Once I finally boarded the plane a kid was playing Final Fantasy III, I assume from the giant game guide he had in his lap!

8. I have a Ninjapass X9 card to which I have put copies of all my games since one day I thought I had forgotten my DS Carry bag with all the games in a plane (I travel often)... I has just misplaced it in my backpack... but the fright was enough.
Nowadays, I buy my games, but download ROMS and transfer saves to the DS X9. I have a few games more or less with me.
I carry with me always :
- Mario Kart DS (great to play with others who don't always have the cartridge with them)
- Animal Crossing (you never know when you want to swat a few flies out of the room)
- Platinum Sudoku (yeah, I know, I'm a victim too)
- Picross DS (cute little puzzles that you can play for a few minutes)
- Final Fantasy III
- Nintendo DS Browser (is it really a game)
- Tetris DS (old classics)
The nice thing... since they all fit on one card, they're allways with the DS. The original boxes and cards are safely stored at home.

1. Well, I definitely never take my DS during camping trips, mostly because I spend my time outdoors but also because it could get broken easily. The DS is (obviously ) great for car rides and during plane rides. As for the amount of games, you should get one of those little cases that hold 6 DS games. It works for me.
