Show and Tell: Getting crafty

We thought it might be nice to take a break from giant, heaping game collections (because we have more!) for something a little more low key, like this case made by reader Audrey. The low key color scheme looks pretty nice with the black DS Lite, and we like anything that snuggles our handhelds. Now we kind of want to hire her to make cases for us. She has a whole set on Flickr called "Things I made," and if you're into crafts, it's worth perusing.

Are you crafty? Are you proud of your game-related stuff? You too can be in this spot, with everyone cooing over your awesome gear and swag. Just take some pictures and send them to showmeit [at] dsfanboy [dot] com, and we'll take care of the rest. We've gotten lots of great submissions so far, but we always want more! Big collections, small collections, random items, your beloved DS -- take some photos and send them to us, and your stuff just might turn up here.

DS Lite cover is TOTALLY METAL

If you're looking for a matte black look for your DS, look no further. Replacement cases are way better than DIY solutions, at least in this instance. This sleek aluminum shell is, frankly, pretty hot, especially with all that white peeking through. And hey -- just in case you harbored a secret desire to replace your soccer ball with a DS Lite one afternoon, this may be just the thing you need. Because it's metal.

The black aluminum shell sells for ¥2,520, or a little more than $20.

DIY DS Lite stylus pen

Frustrated with the DS Lite's stubby stylus, but not enough to empty out your pockets for one of those new-fangled, overpriced utensils we're always featuring?

Faced with that very dilemma, Sal Cangeloso decided to save himself a few bucks with a homemade solution, trimming the stock stylus and packing it with a bit of rubber into his pen's emptied casing (Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto). Though it isn't a new idea at all, we were impressed with Sal's handiwork and wanted to share the small project with our readers. It looks better than most of the high-end styli we've seen for sale!

[Thanks, Kris!]

Age of Hella Cheap Games, revisited

When we last fixed our gaze on Cheap Ass Gamer's list of DS discounts at Amazon, we were presented with eight marked-down titles -- two of which were worth your money, the rest being of middling quality. Since then, the thrifty tally has expanded three-fold, its ratio of rad-to-bad offerings also steadily increasing. Here are a few highlights from the 29 27-strong bargain lineup:

$2.99
  • Nintendo DS Lite Pro Point Stylus
$10.99
  • Bomberman
$14.99
  • Magicial Starsign
  • Resident Evil Deadly Silence
  • Age of Empires: The Age of Kings
  • Sonic Rush
As you probably already know by now, Amazon waives its shipping fees on orders totaling over $25. We can't predict how long some of these deals will last before going out of stock or returning to their original price, so now is not the time to be indecisive! Break your piggy banks open and run past the post break for the full list of games on sale.

Touch Darts with ... a dart

Some promotional items don't require much thought at all. The game's about darts, and the system uses a stylus, so here's a stylus that looks like a dart. You can pretend you're poking a dart board very softly!

The real fun here is using this stylus with other games. You can pretend you're being a total sadist to your Nintendogs, for example. And Dream Skincare? More like Dream Acupuncture. Or, if you prefer, Dream Shredding Someone's Face with a Dart.

Headphones for the Poke-professional

So, you've got the T-shirts. You've got a couple of keychains. You even have your own replica Pokeball, where you imagine Pikachu is hanging out inside, kicking it on the couch sipping a cold one, ready to emerge and kick the crap out of any other Pokemon at a moment's notice.

You might want to see a doctor, because you're obsessed. Or, if you're perfectly fine with the addiction, check out these Japanese headphones, depicting several different Pokemon. They're the kind of headphones that scream "Go away, I'm trying to level up my Manaphy."

Speaker grips add more to hold, more to hear

Straight out of Japan comes this accesory, which adds grips to your DS Lite, along with some more speakers. Should you be of the mind that there nearly isn't enough to hold on to on the DS Lite alone, nor is there enough sound coming from those two speakers that flank each side of the top screen, then this might be the accessory for you. Through battery power, gamers can get 12 hours from this bad boy, rivaling the charge time of the handheld's lithium battery.

Of course, we wonder if placing speakers in the grips is all that functional, but in a land where people cannot possibly get enough of the DS Lite (and it's available accessories), we're sure it'll find a market.

DS Daily: Choice accessories

All it really takes to have a good time with your DS is a game or two, but we tend to add in a few accessories for comfort's sake ... and maybe for a bit of personalization as well. What do you go in for? Case, special headphones, or perhaps a different stylus? We want to hear about your choices. What accessories do you consider absolutely necessary? Screen protectors -- that's our pick, and yet we're surprised by how many people venture out with a bare screen.

Flightless game card collection pouch

Available with both red and gray accents, Penguin United's game card collection pouch holds up to 24 of your DS carts in its clear vinyl pages. We're usually too picky about the designs of our accessories to ever use antything so blatantly branded, but like global warming, the Penguin logo on the wallet's cover managed to melt our glacial hearts.

Though the pouches are already a bargain, listed at $9.99, UncleBob from CAG clued us into a 12%-off coupon code for you to enter -- 'thankyoufrompenguin' -- that drops the price down to $8.80. March past the post break for more photos of the card case and our flippered friend.

Uglify your DS to avoid slippage

You know how sometimes you'll be playing a DS game, and the system will slip completely out of your hands and fall? You don't, because that has never happened? Um, okay. Well, do you hate how smooth and shiny the system is? Oh.

Well, here's this thing anyway. It's a set of rubber grips for the sides of the DS Lite. It comes in white and black. It's got little nubs on it for maximum gripping. It also comes with covers for the ports.

Jammin' Guitar Pick stylus lets us shred our touch screens

We've seen a GameStop.com listing for a product called the "Jammin' Guitar Pick" for a while, but we've been patiently waiting for a picture to show up. Today, one day before the product's release, one has surfaced. It's a very simple idea: a guitar pick with a stylus stuck to it, and it comes in a pack of three for $8. Oddly, the pointier part of the pick doesn't appear to be the part where the stylus is attached.

We're just thrilled that someone at Naki thought Jam Sessions was going to be big enough to call for its very own third-party accessory. Too bad the picks are coming out just as word comes out of the game's delay. We're thinking about picking up the accessory now in anticipation, and so we can pretend we're giving one of them sexy solos while we're playing Meteos.
