We'd obviously
love to order an entire set of these
Mario-themed mats, even at $23 apiece, but we're not sure we'd have the heart to
stand on them. We like our floors, and particular enjoy, you know, using them to
stand, but if you think we're going to tread all over a perfect recreation of the Mushroom Kingdom (which is inevitably what we'd end up doing with these), you can think again.
If you do have floors that are devoid of socks, old pizza boxes, and cats, these are available at NCSX now, and come in the five designs you see to the right.

Sadly, after this week, Show and Tell is going to take a little break for a while. Please keep sending us your stuff -- we'll get to it eventually! -- but since your gracious hostess is about to have a baby, we're going to put this little spotlight on hiatus (but not for long -- promise!).
We're not going out without a bang, however! To give Show and Tell a nice send-off, we asked some of the folks around the Joystiq network, as well as the DS Fanboy staff, to share their stuff ... specifically, their DS units and cases. We learned a few things along the way, such as the fact that the crimson & black DS Lite took over around here (half of us picked one up) and also, that we have a lot of pets.
Remember, you can always send us pictures of your cases, or anything else you want to show off! Just because this feature's going on hiatus for a few weeks doesn't mean we're not interested in showing off whatever you've got, so long as it has a little Nintendo flavor. Just take some pictures (or copy your web album links) and send them to
showmeit [at] dsfanboy [dot] com. We'll take care of the rest
.

We recently brought up the
never-ending case discussion again, because, like so many of our readers, we just can't find that perfect bag that really reflects how we feel about the DS. That's why we love it when readers let us know they've taken matters into their own hands. We like to live vicariously through the crafters among us, because they design the most awesome things -- like these themed DS bags.
Reader Pamela made a bitchin' Peach bag for herself, complete with loads of zippers and pockets, and an extra bag for, well,
extras (like her phone). To complete the look, she got Peach accessories for her handheld, and the result is pinkariffic. In fact, the bag was such a success that she ended up making one for her brother, and another for her brother's friend ... and they're all hand sewn.
Yeah, we're jealous.
So what have you done lately? From crafts to cakes to collections ... whatever you've got, if it has a little Nintendo flavor, we want to see it. Just take some pictures (or copy your web album links) and send them to
showmeit [at] dsfanboy [dot] com. We'll take care of the rest

There's no better fandom than the edible kind; after all, it provides fun and
nourishment. That's why these DIY cookie cutters caught our eye. Not only can you press 1-up cookies on your friends, but you can offer them a sweet treat at the same time, and all it takes is a little sheet metal and spare time. Oh, and
tools, but all worthwhile creations require tools, and a steady hand with which to wield them. As gamers, you should be equipped with that already!

Here's an awesome DIY project you can try out with an old Gameboy/GBC game that you're not too fond of -- turn it into a
USB drive! Themadscientist101 has a photo guide showing how to cut open a window and shave off some of the inside wall to fit a USB drive into the plastic housing. You won't be able to play the game anymore after modding the cart, but if you use something crappy like
Mortal Kombat, that shouldn't be a problem.
Just think of how cool everyone will think you are when you pull out a
Pokemon cart to show off the Pokemon strategy guides you downloaded from GameFAQs! The girls will be
fighting over you. It'll be like the Axe Effect, but in
Pokemon form. For real.
Themadscientist101 also has a Lego USB mod that the ladies can't resist. Jump past the post break for photos of the brick drive.

Every time we're convinced that we're the ultimate DS fans (we're DS Fanboy, after all), someone comes along to show us up. This time it's reader Eric, who put together such a collection of DS-centric media that he had to build a special set of shelves just to hold it all. We're in awe, frankly, and a little jealous we didn't think of it first.
So what's in Eric's special DS center? Walkthroughs for games compiled over the years (see: binders), the DSLife podcast (burned to CD for posterity), oh, and hey,
games. Those are important!
Got something you want to show off to all the other DS fans? We like just about anything with a little Nintendo flavor, so snap a few pics and send 'em off to tell us what's up, and send it all to
showmeit [at] dsfanboy [dot] com. We'll take care of the rest.

DS owners are all about maximizing potential through duality. To go with our dual screens, we're often looking for things we can force into double duty, and reader airpolgas has clearly mastered this art. He turned a simple watch tin into a veritable treasure trove of DS goodness. Sure, he says, it may not fit in a pocket, but that's okay -- his wife's purse is also dual use when they're on the go. We also can't help but admire his choice of
Phoenix Wright for the glamour shot above.
Of course, his niece helpfully points out that, if anything happens to the case, he just may be
screwed. We'll keep our fingers crossed for you!
Hit the jump to see a few more pictures of the Fossil tin, and remember, if you have something to show off, we want to see it. From crafts to cakes to collections ... whatever you've got, if it has a little Nintendo flavor, we want to see it. Just take some pictures (or copy your web album links) and send them to

Yesterday's stylus featured in our
DIY-recycling round-up looked so sweet, we thought we'd talk about it a little more. We use a variety of styli for interacting with our favorite touchscreens; sometimes (when we can find it) we use an extendable stylus, but it's still awfully skinny. That pen-width notion may be worth looking into. Of course, there are other options, but most are lacking a wonderful magic word:
free.
Would you prefer a fat stylus? Do you already use one? Or is the skinny version just fine with you?

One of the interesting things about fanaticism (we're definitely fanatics for all things
Zelda) is how it invades every section of your life. From sketching pictures of green tunics in your notebook during class, right down to ensuring your children grow up with the same obsession as you (more on that in a bit). It's a wonderful, sometimes
scary thing.
Let's see what that fanaticism does when people decide to go DIY.

Inspired by Red Maloo's laptop sleeves, Alfine set out to create her own folding
case for her Onyx DS Lite. The padded pouch's flaps lovingly embrace the portable, locking together with velcro and protecting its contents from the random items she keeps in her bag. Taking the DS out is as easy as pulling back the case's arms. Its plus-sign shape also gets bonus points for resembling a plump D-pad.
We seem to find new ways to house our favorite handheld almost everyday; it's really amazing
how creative people have been with their designs. What crazy idea will the craftsters out there come up with next? You can check out more photos of Alfine's case past the post break.

When it comes to housing your DS or DS Lite in protective coating, we like nothing more than to see
homemade efforts that
showcase the style and creativity of DS fans out there. And these latest crocheted cases are no exception.
Created by Etsy user PaintPaste, the 3 different cases on offer each go for $15. 2 of them have a nice little button to close the case, while the third incorporates a zipper. While we ourselves don't like the colors available, we do laud PaintPaste for creating some sweet DS cases, regardless of color scheme.

We've seen cases made from a variety of hilarious and useful objects, like
duct tape,
sushi mats,
socks, and, well,
pants. Even if you're not the crafty type, have you ever looked at something and thought, now that could make a good case? What would make a funny case? Share your ideas -- and cases you've seen!

For some, the current selection of game cases for the DS just doesn't meet their needs. Christina Cary, for example, wanted to pack away her bulky plastic boxes, but wasn't able to find a storage solution with enough slots to hold her carts. Even Penguin Unlimited's pouch, for all its cuteness, only holds 24 games -- a paltry amount for the serious collectors out there.
Christina ended up doing what any creative craftster would do -- make a case of her own with whatever she had lying around the house. She scrounged up fabric from a pair of pants, plastic from an old pencil case, and other materials to create a 36-cart caddy that rolls up like a rug and sticks shut with two squares of velcro.

A little creativity can go a long way in putting together something unique without having to spend much. Emma Bryce crafted this case for her
DS Phat using only ribbons and a placemat. The inside flap even holds three game carts, though we can't vouch for the sturdiness of its grip.
We see these table pads at Bed Bath & Beyond all the time, as well as a lot of other potential materials, so head over there if you're looking for some DIY case ideas. Or, you know, if you need new window treatments. Check past the post break for another photo of the placemat pouch.

If you're lacking the small amount of cash it would
cost you to pick up a Rumble Pak of your own, there's always the DIY solution. With just a little elbow grease, a spare
Pokemon Pinball GBA game, and a spare Nokia 5100, you can create your own Rumble Pak that fits in flush with your
DS Lite. Of course, one could argue that it isn't worth the effort and suggest just plunking down the dough for one, but then you wouldn't have that sense of accomplishment that comes from doing it yourself and the future comfort of bragging to your friends that you're better than them.
