MIDI + art + game songs = <3

Some awesome soul has taken it about himself to make visually enhanced game tunes, and the result is nothing short of spectacular. Using a program called Music Animation Machine MIDI Player, which converts the musical notes of MIDI songs into art, the creator of these videos has managed to blow our minds. Sure, we always enjoy it when musical sounds are synthesized with visual imagery, but when some of our favorite songs are involved, it just makes it that much better.

We decided to put the Mega Man 2 "Dr. Wily Stage 1" song up top to celebrate Rock Man's 20th anniversary, and well, because it's our favorite. If you don't look after the break to check out the equally awesome Final Fantasy IV, Kirby, Mario, and other tunes, though, you officially fail at the internet.

DS Daily: Those pesky names

Stupid names. Who needs 'em? We never did. Growing up, we never talked about moblins or lynel in The Legend of Zelda. We talked about the spear dudes and those stupid #*@&$^) centaur guys (except with more colorful metaphors). We were dirty, dirty children who shouldn't have been allowed to mix with the other children. But the point is, manual-reading aside, the official names for creatures in video games just never seemed to stick with us. Oh, maybe some (evil) people could summon the precise names for Lakitus and Metools, but we were not those people.

This is why we like Castlevania. You know what a Fish Head is? It's a freakin' fish-headed monster. Even we can remember that. But what about you?

You got Mega Man ZX Advent commercials

Striking while Mega Man ZX is still fresh in our minds (and our Sales posts), Capcom has two new commercials advertising the action platformer's sequel, Mega Man ZX Advent, for its Japan release this July 12th. The US version won't arrive until October, but we love to oversaturate our minds with previews and media to the point where we lose interest in a game long before it even hits store shelves. Depressing, isn't it?

If you enjoyed the anime cut-scenes that were scattered throughout Mega Man ZX, you'll be happy to see their return with these clips of Grey -- one of the two new heroes in Advent -- dodging about a jillion bullets and lasers. Jump past the post break and defeat one of the Pseudoroid bosses for the video.

Now is the time to buy some RockMen

Online import shop Play Asia is trying to lighten its stock of mega-robot guys, hosting a week-long sale on RockMan 3 Zero. Capcom's GBA action-platformer has been discounted to $9.90, almost a fifth of its original price! RockMan 2 Zero boasts a similar discount as a limited time offer, but you get an additional dollar off if you bundle the two games together for your order, bringing the total cost to $18.80.

And in case you've already forgotten, Renchi has also marked a number of its DS import titles down to $9.99, one of them being RockMan ZX! Geologists, rejoice!

Mega Discount Man ZX

Missed out on Mega Man ZX last year? Now is the time to make things right! Amazon has slashed the action-platformer's price down to almost half of its original $29.99 cost, offering the title up for $16.16 ((free shipping on orders over $25).

ZX was praised for its punishing difficulty and Metroidvania design, hailed by some critics as the best release to hit the Capcom series since Mega Man 2 for the NES. Does that sound like a title you'd want to skip? We can't guarantee that this sale price will last for long, so buy it now while it's still cheap! Check past the post break for a trailer if you're still not convinced.

New Rockman ZX Advent screens and character art

Capcom released a ton of screens today for the new Megaman ZX sequel, Rockman ZX Advent, and they show exactly what we want to see in our Megaman games: running from left to right and shooting at robots, all delivered in gorgeous hand-drawn 2D. We could look at stuff like this all day. Coincidentally, that's kind of our job.

In the first ZX, kids use "Biometals" ("Livemetals" in the Japanese version) to transform into robots similar to X and Zero from the Megaman X series, as well as a fused ZX form. The kids from last time, Vent and Aile, have been replaced by a pair of functionally-identical crimefighting children, called Grey and Ashe.

They operate a new Biometal, called Model A, which enables transformation into a dual-wielding robot seemingly based on Axl from Mega Man X7, a game that we're glad is on the PS2 (so we don't have to like it).

We've included character designs and a selection of screens for you. Bask in their 2D-ness after the break, won't you? We shrunk them down a bit from Dengeki's original display, to make the basking more successful. Over-enlarged DS screens are not cool.

Hold it! Phoenix Man

Is our abject lust for all things Phoenix Wright so terribly transparent? It must be, because you guys are forever sending us lawyerly tips, and we love you for it.

Not that we're complaining. Please don't stop. Never stop.

Today's edition of All Random Phoenix Wright Stuff comes by way of a regular feature from webcomic Dueling Analogs, wherein they envision possible rejected Mega Man villains. Gotta love this one! He would own us every time. How could we fight Phoenix Man? He has a attorney's badge and wings! That's an unstoppable combination right there.

[Thanks, Jesse!]

Mega Man Rebirth site

Why is it that all the good stuff is in Japanese first? Oh wait, cause they get it first.

For instance, there are tons of Rockman fans here just as there are in Japan but they get a site first.

Call this our jealousy and envy talking.

Anyway, just to let you know, the Mega Man Rebirth site is up and, yet again, if you don't read Japanese you might have a hard time figuring out whats going on. But, if you have five or so minutes to spare might as well poke around the site.

New Mega Man title on the way

WheeeAccording to a Japanese magazine, the Mega Man EXE team is working on a new Megaman title for the Nintendo DS. The premise is as follows: set a hundred years after the EXE series, wireless communications  are ubiquitous. The signals themselves travel on a special path called the "Wave Road" which stretches across the globe. But, of course, someone had to go and mess with the status quo; not surprisingly, Mega Man is called upon to solve the problem.

We'll have more information is it becomes available.

Mega Man ZX official website up

Mega Man ZXWe've got to admit that we're awfully excited about the recently revealed Mega Man ZX, a brand new DS entry in the platforming series that forgets all that 3D nonsense and takes us back to that good 'ole  2D jumping through-the-boss-door gameplay we obsessively love. We seriously dig Mega Man and have gotten over the fact that he's actually not a man at all, but a little robotic thief that strips hilariously named enemies (Clown Man, we're looking at you) of their surprisingly useful powers.

The official website is up now and, while not revealing much information (even less if you can't read the Japanese characters) does give you a glimpse at the new spiffy saucer-eyed character designs and the newly created Mega Woman. Girrrrrl power and all that. Anyone care to translate this for us? We'll pay you in Zeenies.

[Thanks shiftup72!]
