DS releases for the week of August 20th

At last, it's Brain Age 2 time. Who's picking up the bundle? Inquiring fan-minds want to know (and can we touch it? for a dollar?). Of course, that's not all that's available this week, but it's certainly the most well-known title. Anything else tickle your particular fancy?
  • Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day
  • I SPY Fun House
  • Operation: Vietnam
  • The Settlers
  • Turn It Around
Slip past the break to see what's out in the rest of the world this week -- especially when it comes to the Japanese releases! Language-imbued importers might want to take note.

Upcoming releases for Europe

If you are the kind of person who might have a few euros in your pocket, then you might want to break out a calendar and that special red pen, because the latest list of upcoming DS releases is full of stars. Even better? The next two months are pretty packed. Makes up for a few of those lackluster weeks, eh?

Hit the jump if you wish to grok the list in fullness, and remember, this is by no means complete. Do we need to mention also that it's subject to change? In fact, since it's a European list, we're pretty sure it will change, and probably often.

DS releases for the week of March 26th

It's a busy week for new releases, no matter where you are in the world -- so long as you've got a DS, there'll be something for you to do. And for those of you with an eye toward importing, Japan has their usual allotment of 3,527 new DS titles. Seriously.

So anything tickle your fancy this week? Perhaps you're into the classics, Konami-style, or maybe you plan on settling down. Or maybe, just maybe, you happen to really dig certain licensed games. It's okay, you can tell us if you love Disney. We won't laugh. Probably.

On with the releases!

DS releases in the U.S.

  • Disney's Meet the Robinsons (also GBA)
  • Honeycomb Beat
  • Konami Classics: Arcade Hits
  • Purr Pals
  • The Settlers
For the rest of the globe, check the lists after the jump.

Settlers DS to be EB/Gamestop exclusive

Some of us have been waiting for the DS release of The Settlers for quite a while! And for those of you who are, like us, eager for some PC-style RTS action on the go, then there's just one more hoop to jump through: Gamestop. According to this week's circular, the game is coming out on March 28th ... but as a Gamestop exclusive. We guess you could also go to EB if you wanted.

The upside to a game being exclusive to one retailer is that you'll at least know where to go to find it. Think positive!

We hope that The Settlers turns out better than the last Gamestop-exclusive DS game.

Screenshot roundup: The Settlers

With my undying love for Age of Empires: Age of Kings and good impressions of the small build I saw for Panzer Tactics at E3, I'm full of anticipation for Blue Byte's The Settlers. I feel it my duty to report to you fine readers that a new batch of screenshots for the game have been posted up at Gamespot. The images show several different locales and some of the stat-tracking of the game through its graphs.

So while The Settlers is a real-time strategy game where Age of Empires and Panzer Tactics are both turn-based, some fans firmly aligned with one side might not be so willing to see what the other has to offer. Regardless, the DS, with its touchscreen capabilities and wonderfully-portable nature, is perfect for these types of games and we would love to see them keep on coming.

Ubisoft loves Nintendo, RTS on the way

Spiffy logo.Remember the days when the DS was being ridiculed for its ridiculous design and doomed fate as a gimmick device? Nintendo fans worldwide desperately defended themselves with many arguments, one of the strongest being that the DS was the first non-PC platform in existence that might do the real-time strategy genre justice. Ironically, as we sit in a year full of DS successes, one can't find a single critically-acclaimed RTS title for the system. Hmmm.

Ubisoft, however, is determined to change all that. While they've shown strong support of the Wii (see: launch title Red Steel), their acceptance of Nintendo's two-headed gaming wonder has been a bit slower...but they've come around. They're bringing the formerly PC-only title Settlers to the DS, chock full of awesomeness such as multiple campaigns, thirty different occupational groups, an easy-to-use stylus control scheme, and Chuck Norris. Well, okay. Maybe not that last one, but we're still excited.

(Seriously, how awesome would a Chuck Norris RTS be? I'm calling Ubisoft.)
