Phoenix Wright: Expensive Attorney

Phoenix Wright: Ace AttorneyFurther evidence has sprung up that seems to support the public's case against Capcom, the company that now stands accused of discontinuing hilarious courtroom adventure Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. A quick look at the game's Amazon page reveals that it has officially jumped into that dreadful "rare" category, resulting in ridiculously high prices and the deep sense of regret at not buying it when it just came out.

Phoenix Wright is currently fetching prices between $60 and $100 on Amazon. That's not right. However, Ebay prices seem to be much more reasonable, hovering just over $40 the last time we checked. We also tried to find the game at Game Quest Direct (they sell new copies of out-of-print games) but our efforts were met with an Out of Stock notification and a disturbing, menacing laugh. But then, that might just have been the recording of a disturbing, menacing laugh we have constantly looping in the office. It's fundamentally motivational.

So, are you willing to pay out the nostrils for Phoenix Wright, or do you know of a place that has reasonably priced copies? Please let us know.

[Thanks James B!]

21. I was just at eb today today looking for this... no joy. The guy actually told me that it HAS been discontinued and that they dont expect any more new stock ever. Many people go in asking for it apparently. I so regret not getting it when amazon was clearance pricing them at $25... =(

But someone brought up the good point that the game is still to be distributed in europe. Hopefully capcom sees the demand and ships some more to NA then.

22. unreal mccoy: I haven't heard that it has been officially discontinued, but Tramua Center's one of those innovative games which, because it's slightly off the mainstream in its brilliance, is likely prone to an early death, much like Phoenix.

23. Thank goodness I'm half Japanese and that it's very plentiful in Japan.

24. I was incredibly lucky around two months ago to find it on CDWOW UK for £20. Very strange when they're not the first place I think of when looking for imports, but I'm very glad I did.

If you're lucky it might still be there, but I doubt it.

25. I went to an EB in Dallas last week, and the guy told me that there were only 2 copies left in the state of Texas at EB. Luckily, one of the shops was near my house, and I was able to pick it up for $19.99.

I popped it in that night, and I haven't been able to put it down since.

26. I just paid $50 to import this game from HONG KONG! I am royally pissed at Capcom right now. I rented it in October and was planning to buy it later. Jerks.

27. AH HA HA HA HA!!!

It took 50 phone calls and an hour of driving, but I found an out of the way Gamestop that still had a copy and did not know that which it had!! 32 bucks and I still got it cheaper than from some guy in Hong Kong!

28. I got the game when it first came out.....was either this or Castlevania, but I decided on Phoenix Wright because I had a hunch it'd be discontinued too soon. And yes, it is that great of a game, but really has hardly any replay value....part of me wants to sell mine then re-buy it when the price goes down again. You never know, capcom might reissue it.

29. I don't know if this is true or anything, but according to the following site there's gonna be more in late March 2006:

Thought people might wanna know before they spend all their money on Ebay.
