Brothers in Arms screens split the duty

If you've been keeping up with the march of news about a certain squad-based FPS franchise hitting the DS, then you might know that the game was recently confirmed to have vehicles for player use. Old news, right? Well, it still is, but at least we have more screens from Ubisoft to look at. Never hurts, right?

Kiffnews dishes up 4 fresh screens, with a pair each presenting foot-based and vehicle-based action for the upcoming title, which we've gone ahead and embedded past the post break.

1. Those are next gen graphics...for the DS. If it's hard to make for the PSP, then it'll most likely suck for the DS. Just...don't try.

2. I'm intrigued by the controls, but imagine the frame rate to be very inconsistent, otherwise we'd have a video.

3. I actually hate the DS when it tries to use 3D that it can't do (well.....technically it CAN do but looks lame), but I must admit these screens aren't that bad for a 3D DS game.... hmmmm

4. Pixels....BADDDDD!!!!! I hope they work on the graphics before sending this one out.

5. i dont care for the graphics as long is it plays good...

also i think the pspfanboy is jealous

6. Mmmm, shiny.

7. Yeah, I agree with monkeyman24, um, as long as it plays without too much framerate issues the pixels won't bother me. Metroid Prime Hunters managed. It can be uglier than Metroid and still be fun. More first person shooters for the DS.

8. The problem is, even if they do pull off the visuals sufficiently that you can *play* the game without suffering from bleeding eyeball syndrome, you still have the problem of the display being too small and the resolution being too low to really see enough of your surroundings, let alone objects or enemies in the distance: 'Is it a tree or an enemy unit?'

All those screenshots shows the detailed objects VERY close to the player. If they were enemies, you'd be dead already. Notice the one pic with enemies advancing - you can barely tell which sider they're on.

Games like this suffer from distance draw issues even on the PSP - so I can't say I'm thrilled with the prospect of squinting and peering trying to discern units on my DS, regardless of how far they manage to push the hardware to replicate the console type gameplay. Better to go with a different approach, ala Killzone on PSP or Advance Wars style 2D / isometric view.

9. If my first thought looking at the screenshots was "cool, looks like it'll be a bit nicer than the cellphone version", that's not a good sign.

10. Oh please, like this game would even be playable on a DS. Come on DS can do 2d fairly well but when they try the 3d route its so pixelated and slow its hard to make out anything on the screen,,, ahhhh the horror help my eyes are bleeding!

11. @ pixelator:

have you ever played ANY shooter before?
the color of the crosshair should do the trick..
if red is "enemy".. you should be able to figure it out yourself ;)

the graphics are lookinŽ good!
