Namco not spinning any Tales outside of Japan

In speaking with Cubed3, Hideo Baba-san from Namco has presented those of us not lucky enough to reside in the gaming capital of the world with some grim news: Tales of Innocence, the latest DS entry in the Tales series of games, won't be leaving Japan. At least, for now, as Namco has no plans to localize the game for other territories. This all comes from an interview which is set to run later this week on Cubed3.

What's odd, though, is that they would choose to bring a Wii title and Xbox 360 game to the U.S., yet would completely ignore the DS. It's just ... it's just, well ... odd. We just don't know how else to put it.

Tales of introductions and battle

Namco Bandai's Tales franchise has been around for quite some time and the idea to bring it to the DS in the form of Tales of Innocence seems like a no-brainer. But, is the game going to be any good? Is it going to be the Tales experience fans are looking for?

Hopefully, these pair of trailers will help you answer that question. So, check out the game's intro above and some battle footage past the break.

Tales of optional black outlines

The Tales of Innocence developer blog shows a new graphical feature for the game that will allow people to alter its appearance to their preference. At least, in one aspect. You'll have the option to add black outlines to the hero and monster models, giving the game more of a cel-shaded look. Or you could choose not to!

Black outlines certainly make everything look crisper, but in doing so they could expose you to deadly jaggies. Either way, the game seems to look nice for DS 3D. And it's certainly kind of them to provide options like this, which can change the whole style of the game.

DIY characters in Tales of Innocence

Tales of Innocence just got a little more interesting. New screens on Famitsu reveal that Tales has a feature found commonly in western RPGs, but rarely in Japanese RPGs: character creation. In addition to designing a character's appearance, you can also mess with their AI rules for combat-- Tales of Innocence automates helper character actions, meaning that your input in combat comes from the rules you set for the characters (and the movements you make as the playable lead character).

You can also assign different weapons with elemental and status effects to these new characters. You'll have to go find the materials to make these weapons, of course.

Nintendo conference screenshot roundup

We posted a lot of DS screens revealed at or to coincide with yesterday's Nintendo conference, but there's no way we could do an individual post on them all. Three screens of something we've already seen tons of screens of doesn't exactly warrant its own post. Some of the screens listed have been previously released. Some of the games, we just didn't get to. But we can link to a Japanese roundup post that's loaded with screens, and list the games shown within by title!

We promise that as soon as we get more information on this stuff beyond a few screens in a roundup, we'll post it. Until then, check after the break for every game in the roundup, organized in order of appearance on the GAME Watch page.

Neat Accessory Sets of Innocence

We like Hori's themed Protect Cases. They're an easy, inexpensive, and impermanent way to give your DS Lite a "limited edition" look. This way, you can deck out your DS like you spent $200 dollars on a bundle, but then if you decide that the game is terrible or something, you can just toss the cover and not have a constant reminder of your own folly on the top of your system.

From the looks of it, Tales of Innocence won't be terrible, and so there will no doubt be an audience for this nice-looking set. It includes a clear Protect Case and a maroon Tales of Innocence extending stylus, for $23. It'll be released on December 6th.

TGS07: Beautiful new Tales of Innocence trailer

The post-show media just keeps rolling in! We're not complaining, though ... far from it, when the media in question is as mind-boggling as this Tales of Innocence trailer. Even us dedicated DS fans are sometimes impressed with the capabilities creative developers can wring out of our handheld.

This latest Tales installment is due for release in December in Japan, and there's no word on localization, but after seeing this trailer, we can only hope Namco Bandai picks up the slack.

[Thanks, creamsugar!]
