US gets equipped with Mega Man Star Force cartoon

Mega Man
series fans have something else to look forward to in the near future, besides the never-ending stream of spinoffs and sequels. Viz Media has licensed the anime adaptation of the latest spinoff, Mega Man Star Force (Ryuusei no Rockman in Japan) for US audiences.

The story is some baffling thing about a human kid merging with an alien entity called Omega-Xis to become Mega Man, which we're sure will make more sense after we play the game. It makes us a little nostalgic for the sparse robot vs. robot storyline of the original Mega Man series, but not the original Mega Man cartoon. Do you think the cartoon will be good enough to promote a game with three versions? We make fun of Capcom for all the Mega Man overload, but we're huge fans and will no doubt fill our TiVos with episodes of this series.

Shining a spotlight on Mega Man Star Force

Originally, we were under the impression that the game would be titled Mega Man: Rebirth, but apparently that is not the case any longer. In his second game on Nintendo's dual-screen beauty, Mega Man will be battling foes during the time period immediately following the latest Battle Network game on the GBA. Unlike its predecessor, we are given a new protagonist in Subaru as the devs have decided to toss old favorite Lan and his Netnavi to the curb.

This time around, there is no Netnavi and instead Subaru must rely on his FM called Warlock. The FM is a sort of sentient lifeform living in radio waves, and upon fusing with Subaru, they combined create Mega Man. Simple enough, right?

The meeting of these two is a rather tragic one, as three years following the passing of his father, Subaru has become a recluse. He never leaves his house, despite the repeated attempts of friends, and has chosen a life of anti-socialism. One night, while quietly gazing at the stars with one of his father's inventions, he stumbles upon Warlock. Of course the two chat, later decide to have dinner, and well ... little Timmy, that's how you were born!

OK, we're kidding about that last part (Timmy, you're actually a clone!), but the rest is true, we swear!

A handful of new Mega Man: Rebirth scans

Over at DS-x2, a trio of scans for the upcoming Mega Man: Rebirth show the game is going through some minor changes. Most predominant of these changes is how the boy in blue's suit looks as if it can morph or augment itself to provide him with different battle capabilities. Also, the camera perspective during battle looks like it has shifted some as well.

The scans are huge, so we could not embed them into the post. You're just going to have to put in the work and go check them out. Yes, yes, we know, we're horrible.

Mega Man ZX videos blast your eye sockets

For those of you looking to get your bot-blasting on with the blue bomber himself (we assume that is everyone, naturally), set your gaze to two new videos over at Game Trailers. One is the intro to the game, the second being a longer, more mouth-watering look at the title's gameplay.

As is the norm, continue on to check out the two trailers embedded into the post.

New Mega Man scans

When we reported on a new Mega Man game being announced via Coro Coro Magazine, we had no idea that the announcement featured an entire multi-page spread. In the scans, we get a new glimpse of the main hero, even in his Mega Man battle suit (we're not impressed), as well as the new battle system. The battle system looks like it's some kind of variation on the game tic-tac-toe, where instead of X's and O's, there are deadly robots fighting for their very lives.

Another Mega Man game coming to DS

According to DSX-2, the successor to the Rockman.EXE series (Mega Man Battle Network to the rest of the world) has been formally announced as Ryusei no Rockman and will be shipping to Japanese gamers come this winter. The new hero will be named Seiga Subaru. Nothing else in the way of actual info can be gleamed from the source (Corocoro magazine), so keep an eye on DS Fanboy for future updates.

Mega Man ZX screenshots and artwork

There's a plethora of gameplay screenshots and artwork for the upcoming Mega Man ZX over at ITmedia. The sprites aren't looking too great, yet that can be largely attributed to the fact that the gameplay screenshots are not actual size. Some of the artwork looks very good, along with the backgrounds.

The current word on the net is that the player can choose either Van or Eile who, upon collecting some form of "living metal" throughout the game, augment their armor in various ways.
