Joystiq presents

DS releases for the week of 20 March [Update 1]

Do you enjoy blasting well-armed blocks to smithereens or strategically arranging bounty hunters to score loads of points? Well then...wait, I think I got something wrong there. Regardless, Metroid Prime Hunters and Tetris DS are released today! Get yourself to the nearest retailer and exchange your money for gaming goodness. And while you're there, be on the lookout for those sneaky Wi-Fi download kiosks.

DS Releases this week:
  • Metroid Prime Hunters (3/20)
  • Tetris DS (3/20)
  • Tao's Adventure: Curse of the Demon Seal (3/21)
  • Worms: Open Warfare (3/22)
[Update: Lack of invertebrate killing machines corrected, EB release list punished accordingly.]

1. OK, so it SAYS on bestbuy.com that Hunters is released on the 30th. Which sucks. Iv found I can't trust release dates as an indication of when stores will actually get a game in stock. It was that was for Resident Evil DS, and for Age of Kings. Nobody in Chicago had them in stock the first few days after the release date. And with a game this high in demand, Ill be lucky to get one by the end of the month.

3. My local EB has not got Tetris DS or MPH games from their warehouse yet. :( Hopefully they will have them in hand today. I am crossing my fingers!

4. What about Worms DS? Im looking forward to that as much as Metroid or Tetris. Do you know something I dont about it shipping?

5. I hear you Brad.
Even the Nintendo World Store has problems getting the games for the day of release. There have been a couple of times where I was looking for a game there but only found it at one of my small local game shops.
You'd think as a flagship store, NWS be a top prority.

I find that being in NY means you don't get games on the release date.

6. Worms is releasing this week - the release list I received from EB had an incorrect date. The post has been updated to reflect this.

8. Nintendo.ca (Canada) lists the the release date for MPH and TDS as March 22/06.

9. This so stinks. I was looking forward to getting MPH today and 2 Walmarts didnt have it in stock :( .

10. Well, at least now I don't have to bemoan the fact that I don't quite have the cash for either one yet, as it looks like shipping is all messed up anyway. XD Gives me more time to choose, at any rate. Do I go with gravitationally challenged social tetrominos, surreal RPG-follow-up-to-a-cult-hit, or 7 really ticked off bounty hunters going around shooting each other up? Decisionas, decisions...

11. is it me, or do i recall tetris reportedly being released at a budget price of $20? what happened to that? or did i make it up?

13. i called walmart this morning and they said it would be in at 1-4 probably.

Posted at 5:15PM on Mar 20th 2006 by piff

14. i'm posting this from my local best buy right now, and guess what??? no tetris ds and no metroid prime hunters, ghey! i'm headed over to gamestop now to see if maybe they have any of these. what a let down :-(

Posted at 6:22PM on Mar 20th 2006 by LooP

15. Bill, in what area do you live that this Target has Tetris in stock? I'm going to hit up my Target - every game store I've run across says that MP:H shipped today and will be overnighted to them. If anyone can find a copy, please tell us!

16. I walked for one hour, quickly, in the cold and wind. To three malls. 12 stores. Finally, EB who had promised the 20th... they were my last resort, I entered... only to discover they ARENT SELLING UNTIL TOMORROW EVEN THOUGH IT READS the 20th on their signs CLEARLY. ='( why do they make Dom cry?

Tomorrow I'm going during my spare to pick it up, its a half hour from my school. My spare is 70 minutes... I should jusssssssssst make it!

Wish me luck, and look for GamerD to smack you from Canada!

17. For future reference, Nintendo tells the SHIPPING date, which was March 20th.

But that does not mean the game will be one sale that day EVERYWHERE. Most of the big retale markets like Best Buy, Target and Wal Mart won't have them on sale till the Wednesday after the shipping day because they don't get the shipment till someday on Tuesday.

EB and Gamestop will have the game WHENEVER they receive it. Some get it on the day it ship(mostly west coast shops) others on Monday night/Tuesday morning and others, not till Tuesday afternoon/late Tuesday afternoon.

Yeah, that the way it goes...

18. Nintendo World Store had them both today, and it was a bit of a circus.

"is it me, or do i recall tetris reportedly being released at a budget price of $20? what happened to that? or did i make it up?"

That was Brain Age.

19. Usually the release dates that are at the game stores are when the games are released...from the warehouse's. So then it's usually the next day when the copies arrive in stores. I work at a game store our lists say MPH releases on 20th, it arrives on 21st.

20. The tetris I picked up was in downtown Minneapolis.
