Nintendo urges Australia to train brains

When they're not busy putting shrimp on the barbie or rolling their eyes at annoying stereotypes, Australians are enjoying gaming just as much as the rest of us are. In particular, they'll get to enjoy the DS Lite before most of America, with the system already launching down under on Thursday, 1 June. It seems that the system will also include a demo version of Brain Training (as it's called in Japan) in the box, something we hope is repeated for the US Lite launch.

Let's hope they have better luck saying "BLUE!" than the rest of the world did.

1. When I was at the live E3 stream at Nintendo World, they had these scientist to help promote brain age. While I questioned them about the whole blue thing, the female scientist told me to say "brue" as if you had some japanese accent. As I played brain age while I got home, it was nice to see that it actually worked, well for a while.

2. Im an Australian and i totaly agree with how hard it is to get brain age to recognise the word blue, i end up screaming at it or just yelling out jibberish and it work better. My local game store has broken the street date for dslite, i wont say which store but i picked mine up yesterday, its amazing. Have fun waiting Americanos....muahaha.

3. Nintendo is just promoting a product, or mabye...Naah. Mabey Australians should stop licking those toads.

4. It isn't hard to get it to recognize the word "blue" at all for me. Just hold it about a foot away from your face and talk in a slightly-louder-than-speaking-voice tone.

5. Yup, Blue is as painful to say here as it appears to be anywhere, pitty.
And Big Ed, WTF? I've heard most of the bad jokes/stereotypes... but toads?
Also, there's no such thing as a shrimp in Australia... we call them Prawns.

6. The possible reason brain training can't recognise "Blue" is the absence of the letter "l" from the Japanese language.

7. I got a DS Lite with the demo a few days ago, and only once have I experienced it not recognising the word blue for me. And that time, I wasn't speaking very loudly. Just thought I'd try to see how softly/loudly I had to speak. During that time, when I was speaking softer than usual, it had trouble with (We say "it" had trouble, though maybe "we're" at fault) yellow a few times, like, maybe twice, but other than that, 'twas fine as a sunny summer day.

The thing I was most disappointed with was how short the demo was. I suppose it's only a demo, but they could have put a few more things into it to bide the time until it's actually released here. June 15th.

As an off-shoot, I saw an ad where they showed it off on the channel 7 news over here, didn't see the actual article, but it was there. It's the first time I've ever seen Nintendo do anything in conjunction with the news, which is a pretty big deal, considering the complete lack of marketing material Nintendo have had in the past over here.
