Folks at IGN and GameSpot got their hands on
Apollo Justice this week, which means there are some interesting sets of hands-on impressions floating around ... and also means the potential for spoilers is increasing with every moment as we approach the
release of the fourth game in the franchise. We'll be very general here, and if you just can't wait for every possible tidbit, head on over and read at your own risk.
Both outlets report that the new installment starts out in similar fashion to the others; that is, the first case is something of a tutorial that helps players find their way around the courtroom process and get to know their main character. Further, this game seems to live up to all the wackiness, fun, and wit of the previous games in the series ... something many may have worried about due to the new cast. Never fear, dedicated fans. It looks like
Apollo Justice is set to be just as guilty a pleasure as his predecessor.

We didn't have much reason to doubt a
rumor started by
Capcom employees themselves, but official confirmation is always welcome. According to Capcom's blog, this totally metal Apollo Justice keychain will be available from GameStop as a preorder gift, and from Capcom's online store as a gift with both preorders and post-release-date orders of
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. People who have already put in their preorder
will receive one of these.
We were on the fence about whether to get the next installment of the completely excellent adventure game series. Now that we know there's a keychain involved, there's no question.

Okay, so the
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations preorder doodad
wasn't so great. And ordering the set from
Capcom's online store was
a total mess. That was
way back in October! Things have totally changed now.
Court Records users spotted a Capcom Blog webcam shot that revealed the preorder gift for
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. It's a swanky keychain featuring a metal silhouette of Apollo, and, if it's completely identical to the Japanese version sold on e-Capcom, Phoenix Wright as well.
Capcom hasn't made any
official announcements yet, and their store doesn't reflect the offer. Maybe GameStop will also carry this; if not, though, we're
totally considering taking our chances again.

In anticipation of the English-language release of
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Capcom has released an officially translated version of their
Gyakuten Saiban 4 demo, which covers the beginning of the game, through the first cross-examination.
If you're trying to maintain a spoiler-free life before the release of the DS cartridge, steer clear, because this
is a segment of the actual game, even if it is presented as a "mock trial." However, if you don't consider the first few minutes of the first case spoiler material, and if you want to see Winston Payne's new suit (which we think is even better than the haircut), you could find worse ways to blow a few minutes on the Internet than by playing some
Apollo Justice.

Further demonstrating the
insane success of our favorite lawyer adventure game series, Del Rey Manga, publisher of
Avril Lavigne's Make 5 Wishes, will be translating the official
Gyakuten Saiban manga and releasing it in the U.S. The first volume of
Phoenix Wright is set to be released on August 26th, at a retail price of $13.95. Amazon, of course, is preselling it for $2 less.
The manga features all the familiar
Phoenix Wright characters you know, love, and object to, along with new characters, in completely new cases. With
Apollo Justice on the way next month, we're glad to have a line on some new content, even if it's somewhat less interactive than the games.

There are a lot of exciting games coming out in the next few months (some pretty soon, too!), but what we're curious about is what's on the schedule for the gamer-on-a-budget? If you could only buy one new DS game in the next few months, what would you pick? Are you dying for
Advance Wars? Are you a diehard for the
Ace Attorney? Or is there something else that's caught your eye (and your wallet)?

Promotional Consideration is a weekly feature about the Nintendo DS advertisements you usually flip past, change the channel on, or just tune out.
The following DS Lite ads were taken from a series of Nintendo-sponsored station identification pieces (idents) aired over a year ago on Channel 4. For those of you unfamiliar with idents, they're short spots, often themed, stuck in between television shows to help "brand" the channel. In the case of this set, the
UK public-service TV station bookended its comedy programs with Japanese theatre-styled advertisements for the DS's features and games.
They're some of the most creative commercials we've seen for the handheld, so don't skip this post!

For how much we talk about
Phoenix Wright and the
Ace Attorney lineup of games here at DS Fanboy, you should already know this next tidbit of info involving upcoming game
Apollo Justice. In case you don't, however, then here's your warning:
spoiler alert!
In the newest game, Phoenix has given up on life and resorted to being a hobo. His cap, which is pictured above, is available as a pre-order bonus for those in Japan. Definitely beats that
crummy Phoenix plush we got for pre-ordering
Trials and Trbulations here. Hopefully, Capcom will treat Japanese gamers a bit better than
they treated us.

Capcom has just released a set of playing cards containing character art spanning the whole series (including the upcoming
Apollo Justice), called the
Gyakuten Saiban Character Trump set. The best news (for us) is that it's available on Play-Asia! If you've ever wanted to spend $20 on a deck of cards, here's your chance. And we can keep those cards in the official
Gyakuten Saiban card case.
(Hmm, there seems to be one major flaw in this post. Maybe we should go through the testimony again to find the contradiction.)

2007 is almost over, and the end of the year brings joyous tidings of List Season. It's the time for taking stock of the last 12 months of gaming, and trying to make sense of it by putting things in numerical order. Join DS Fanboy for our best-ofs, worst-ofs, and other categories-ofs.
We asked, and as always, you guys
delivered. While the top-voted game of the year will probably come as no surprise to anyone, especially since it ran away with
all the votes, the other five games that topped out in our readers' choice polls demonstrate not only the wide variety of content on the DS, but the depth of taste among DS Fanboy
readers, as well. While the top games were above and beyond, every title feature snagged its fair share of votes. This can only mean one thing: it was one hell of a good year to be a DS owner.
So which six games were most deserving of attention this year, according to you guys? Mosey on past the break to see the winners.

Electronics retailer Circuit City has an ongoing deal in which you can get any two games priced at $19.99 for only $30, but, because of a recently discovered glitch during the ordering process, customers have reportedly received a $10 discount for each $19.99 game they've thrown into their shopping carts, bringing their total even further down to $20 for two items.
Though many of the online shop's $19.99 titles are currently out of stock, we've put together a short list of the DS titles available that you might want to pick up with this buggy bargain. We can't guarantee that your order will stick once Circuit City's management catches wind of this bug, nor can we say whether or not exploiting this slip-up makes you a horrible person, but here you go:
- Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day
- Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day
- Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice For All
- Sonic Rush
- Spectrobes
While there are also a few GBA (as well as PS2 and PSP) titles eligible for this "deal," keep in mind that this glitch works best with two games from the same console.
- Pokemon Leaf Green
- Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis
- Super Mario Advance

Warning: This video contains spoilers
While playing
Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, we came across this hilarious scene in which the game pokes fun at the "frothing female masses" devoted to Miles Edgeworth (which, sadly, includes this blogger). We know that they're embarrassing to admit to, since -- as you well know -- video game characters
aren't real people. Yet, many of us must concede to having a video game crush at some point in our lives, and it's time to 'fess up and come clean. So, what video game characters have you had (or do you
have) a crush on?

The last time we featured a bargain for
Phoenix Wright: Justice for All, Amazon was hosting a sale for the courtroom adventure title for $14.99, five dollars less than its list price. That was a pretty great deal for the
Ace Attorney sequel, but recent developments in DNA testing and modern technology advancements have made it possible for the online shop to further increase its discount;
Justice for All is now available for $13.99! Joys be thine!

Yesterday, we focused on some of the bigger games of 2007, as chosen by you. Today, however, we thought we'd look at the other games, the titles one or two people mentioned, somewhat wistfully, when
we asked for your choices for the best and brightest. These games may not have gotten as much attention as titles like
Phantom Hourglass, but that doesn't mean there aren't some real gems in the mix. From the quirky humor in
Chocobo Tales to the portable and addictive destruction of
Geometry Wars: Galaxies, these games all deserve another moment in the sun. The real question is: which are your favorites? Vote early, vote often!

A listing for
Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice has surfaced at GameStop's online site, claiming the game would grace retail shelves on the 19th of February. Although the listing is hardly confirmed, we're crossing our fingers that this is the true release date.
We might have initially thought the game was coming
too soon following
Trials & Tribulations, but that
isn't the case any longer. We want this game. And we want it
now. Also, we wonder about possible pre-order gifts, although we won't be pre-ordering through
Capcom directly, we assure you.
