Many of you expressed your horror at this vandalized DS (because really, there's no other way to describe it). But, for every horrible "mod" like this one, there are ten good ones in its place. Which DS mod over the years has been your favorite? You can use this tag to refresh your memory, if need be. There are so many beauties out there, so if you feel you can't limit yourself to just one, let us know some honorable mentions as well.
DS Daily: Favorite Mod?

DS Daily: Holiday Lite

DS Daily: Bring out your dead
Yesterday's discussion of Myst and the continuing saga of DS remakes made us a little nostalgic, and we can't stop thinking about other titles that should be remade. Sure, we did an entire focus on it not long ago, but so long as companies keep pushing out the remakes, we'll keep dreaming. Today, we're fondly dreaming of a King's Quest compilation for the DS. Wouldn't that be lovely? Sure, games like Myst that promise extra content, or ports like Geometry Wars: Galaxies (also with beefed-up content) are nice, but multi-packs of old, untouched games would do us up right as well. Can you think of anything older you'd like to see come to the DS as-is (or close?)
DS Daily: Myst opportunities

Statistically, most people here probably have a copy of the game somewhere, so we'll assume you're familiar with it. Do you think Myst was a good game in 1993, and do you think it could hold up today? Will you go in for the new content in Myst DS?
DS Daily: 20
Did you ever make it? We mean the optimal score in Brain Age, of course. Tragically, the lowest this blogger ever hit was the low-to-mid twenties, but surely that comes from being a drooling, Castlevania-obsessed blogging type (and also, apparently, old-brained). Did you get all the way down to twenty? Did you pump your fists in the air and cheer? That can be embarrassing when you happen to be in public. Or are you more like me, sad and pathetic, staring through the glass at all the younger, smarter, better people? It's okay. It's not too bad here on the outside.
DS Daily: Ad power

DS Daily: Family friendly
The Wii is constantly hyped as a gaming system for every member of the family, but let's not forget that the DS appeals to the casual market, too. With that said, does anyone else in your family play the DS? Perhaps your mother, or little cousin, or even your grandfather? Who knows, they may even be more hardcore about it than you are. Or, maybe you're the sad, lone DS player of the family? (Cue the song "One is the Loneliest Number.")
DS Daily: Gift list nightmares
Yesterday we asked what DS items were topping your list of items you would like loved ones to give you on (holiday or occasion that involves gift exchange). Today we'd like to talk about the opposite. No doubt, if your gaming habit is as obvious as ours is, your relatives know that you enjoy the video games. Is there anything you fear you'll get? Something so horrific you'll be ashamed to go return it?We'd be afraid of getting something like Imagine Babyz, mostly because we'd be unable to mask the revulsion on our faces as we opened the game.
DS Daily: So about that gift list ...
Yesterday, we talked about the Wall Street Journal's poll regarding most-wanted gifts, and today, we want to talk about yours. Specifically, DS games. Hoping for any as holiday gifts from friends and family? After all, there are quite a few that come out throughout the year that we never seem to manage to get through, so we always include a few on the year-end wishlists. How about you? What are you hoping for?
DS Daily: Family first
Since the holidays are about being with family and not our video game collections, it's often hard to get in as much DS time as we'd like on such occasions. Even though we might enjoy spending our time with Phoenix Wright more than we like talking to our crazy aunt, sometimes we just don't get a choice in the matter.Does your DS see any action on the holidays, or are you so busy that you tend to neglect it? Perhaps you usually have a long drive to a relative's house that is perfect for some portable gaming? Or maybe you try to keep the holidays strictly about family? If you're anything like us, you might even enjoy showing off your little gadget to family members, no matter how many times they ask you what the "DS" stands for.
DS Daily: Coaching

Now that the Coach games have hit, and have been explored in exhaustive detail thanks to Alisha's daily gameplay journal, we thought we would ask again. Anyone out there thinking of picking up a new language with their own personal Coach? Or has Spanish for Everyone undone any goodwill you may possibly have toward DS language training?
DS Daily: Would you buy another DS?
When it comes to the DS, you've got options. You can go traditional, you can move up to a Lite, and you can choose from a variety of colors. You can even import if your region doesn't feature the shade you prefer. But would you buy another regular DS or bundle? Would it depend on price? What about the rumored redesigned DS, sans GBA slot? If it came with that also-rumored download service, we'd be all over it, but the GBA slot is near and dear to our hearts. There might be tears.
DS Daily: How's it looking?

How is your DS holding up cosmetically? Does it still shine like the Dickens? Do people still react to its presence with a hushed awe? Has it acquired any scratches in its lifespan, either on the outer surfaces or the screens?
Right before we got the new Lite, the outer layer of the sticker on the back of our DS Phat spontaneously came off, taking some of the print off with it. Thus the unfortunate effect seen above. In terms of case and screen scratches, it's practically brand new, but that simple cosmetic effect seems to have aged the unit so much.
DS Daily: Did you ever doubt the DS?

When Nintendo first unveiled our portable friend back in the uncertain days of January 2004, the internet reaction bordered on hysterical -- flabbers everywhere were well and truly gasted. Two screens, one a touchscreen? On a handheld? Had Nintendo finally gone ever so slightly mad?
Well, no, they hadn't. Turns out, we needn't have worried. Yesterday, we learned that the twenty millionth DS had just sold in Japan, while it continues to mercilessly stomp all over the competition everywhere else. But that happy news got us thinking, back to that first announcement.
But what about you? Honestly now: did you ever think Nintendo had dreamt up a great big, steaming pile of fail when it unveiled the DS? You can tell us. We're all friends here.
DS Daily: Meant for each other
We took the easy way out and chose a game that already had stylus controls, but we're sure you can be much more creative.
*Note: The above game is a work in progress known as Crayon Physics Deluxe.
