DS Daily: What's in it for you?

Everyone has their own reasons for buying a system. Sometimes, it's simple faith in the manufacturer. Many of you probably either bought, or planned to buy, a DS at launch. For others, it takes waiting for either enough games to make it worthwhile, or a particular game, to move a system. What brought you into the world of the DS, and what drives your continued dedicated to the handheld?

Pokemon launch event at Nintendo World Store

New York City Pokemon fans: Nintendo wants to catch you all! If you are near the Nintendo World Store on April 22 and want your purchase of one of the first copies of Pokemon Diamond or Pearl to be a big deal, why not pick up your copy there and check out their launch party?

Nintendo promises that their event will bring attendees "live stage events, a Pokemon scavenger hunt, contests, and cool prizes like exclusive premiums, Pokemon Nintendo DS Lite units, Pokemon gear, and even tickets to some great summer sporting events!" Pokemon Nintendo DS Lite units, huh? Better go early to beat the eBay vultures. You know, so you can get your own to sell on eBay.

DS Lite theft won't affect European launch

We're sure the heinous theft of oodles upon oodles (see: a couple millions worth) of black DS Lites caused a few sleepless nights for you European gamers desperately waiting to get your hands on what is the ultimate handheld console on the market today. Well, if reassuring words that your DS is well on its way and would never leave you hanging on launch day are something you need to hear read, then Next-Gen.biz has got you covered. In a response dished out by a nameless Nintendo spokesperson, there will be "little impact on the European supply as the licensed producer is rushing additional output."

Poll: Did you get a DS Lite yesterday?

The DS Lite finally launched in the US yesterday, a fact which didn't go entirely unnoticed by the nation's Nintendo fans. We'd like you to take part in our vaguely comprehensive and entirely unscientific poll as we attempt to measure your post-purchase satisfaction, if indeed you were lured to stores in the first place.

Did you get a DS Lite yesterday?
Yes! I sense that my life has somehow improved.
Yes! Too bad it's a piece of junk.
Yes! It's not all that different from the old model.
No! I'll get a Lite once the nerd rush has passed.
No! I'm happy with my Phat, thank you very much.
No! I imported mine like, a century ago.
No! I don't even have the old DS. Or friends.
It's not out in Europe yet. Thanks for rubbing it in, jerk.

Nintendo urges Australia to train brains

When they're not busy putting shrimp on the barbie or rolling their eyes at annoying stereotypes, Australians are enjoying gaming just as much as the rest of us are. In particular, they'll get to enjoy the DS Lite before most of America, with the system already launching down under on Thursday, 1 June. It seems that the system will also include a demo version of Brain Training (as it's called in Japan) in the box, something we hope is repeated for the US Lite launch.

Let's hope they have better luck saying "BLUE!" than the rest of the world did.

Confirmed: June 23rd = Lite European launch [Update]

I guess we weren't just being cruel after all when we reported on the rumor. Thankfully, Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that you fine folk across the pond will be getting your hands on a Lite less than two weeks after us over here in the United States. Retailing for £99.99/149.99 EUR, the redesigned DS is going to cost those of you over there quite a bit more money to acquire (about $187 US for the Britons and $191 US for the rest of Europe). What will you be doing with your DS Phat upon upgrading to a Lite?

[Update: Added pricing. Please forgive me, I posted this very early in the morning]

DS Lite: I like Australia more than America

Not only do you guys have koalas, which are arguably nature's greatest contribution to the world outside the platypus, but now this?! Turns out the land down under will be receiving Nintendo's sexy new DS redesign a full 10 days before the 'ole U S of A. Now's your chance Australia, rub some salt into our collective wound!
